Does Makro Have an Affiliate Program?

Over the last few weeks, I’ve been doing a ton of research into affiliate marketing in South Africa. I’ve been looking into various big retailers and whether or not they affiliate programs…

…One name that keeps popping up in my research is Makro and the big question is does Makro have an affiliate program?

Sadly, the answer is no, Makro does not have an affiliate program. Despite having an incredible range of products that they sell from general foodstuff to home appliances, office furniture to DIY & home improvement supplies, they do not offer a referral or affiliate commision.

As an affiliate marketing in South Africa it would be awesome if Makro did have an affiliate program (Hint, hint, nudge, nudge Makro). Many of us would be willing and able to send traffic and sales their way…

Does Makro have an affiliate program

How would Makro’s affiliate program work (If they had one)

Affiliate marketing in its simplest form is where a retailer or service provider pays a third party (us as affiliate marketers) a referral commission for telling consumers about their business.

The amazing thing about affiliate marketing is that it is performance based. What that means is if I send a potential customer to Makro and they don’t buy anything, Makro doesn’t pay me for that. They only pay me a commission if someone I send their way actually buys something.

That is one of the reasons I Iove affiliate marketing. There is absolutely no risk for Makro or me as the affiliate marketer.

Is there a Makro alternative for affiliate marketers in South Africa?

Now that we’ve discovered that Makro doesn’t have an affiliate program, what other options do we have as affiliate marketers in South Africa?

With the number of product lines that Makro carries it is nearly impossible to find just one affiliate program to promote.

The Amazon Associates Program would be an ideal alternative to the Makro affiliate program, however, Amazon keeps slashing their affiliate commissions so I would not recommend them (you can read why you shouldn’t promote the Amazon Associate Program here).

The good news is there are a number of South African businesses that have affiliate programs that you can promote instread.

I wrote this article on the affiliate programs in South Africa that will walk you through all the available affiliate programs in SA as well as how to use them to make money online.

Selling products on the Makro Marketplace Seller Portal

There is one other option as a marketer in South Africa and that is to sell your own products on the Makro website.

Makro has opened up the opportunity to South African business owners to use Makro’s distribution channels to sell their products.

There are quite stringent requirements to be able to sell on the Makro website (like not being allowed to sell anything Makro already sell) but as an online seller partnering with Makro would be beneficial.

I will be digging into each of these topics in more detail in the coming weeks and months. I’ll also show you exactly how you can make money online with affiliate marketing. Don’t miss any of the video tutorials that I upload to my YouTube channel.
